Watch the trailer for “The Sound of Bed-Stuy” | Out January 17th

The Dub-Stuy family is thrilled to announce a new documentary short from Stept Studios, with support from Smirnoff, about sound system culture and community in the midst of the pandemic: The Sound of Bed-Stuy. The trailer is out now via YouTube:

Featuring interviews with Dub-Stuy Records founder Quoc Pham (Q-Mastah) as well as artists JonnyGo Figure, Hilla BunDem and Blakkamoore, The Sound of Bed-Stuy explores Dub-Stuy not only as a unique music collective but also as a multi-sensory experience of music, food and good vibes. Firmly rooted in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood of Brooklyn, this is a fast-paced look, through four chapters, at the depth and weight of the Dub-Stuy record label and sound system and its relationship to the neighborhood.

The Sound of Bed-Stuy and an extended director’s cut will be available digitally via Youtube and Vimeo on Tuesday, January 17th, with a special screening and after party at 8:00pm on Saturday, January 21st, at Tip Top (323 Franklin Avenue, Brooklyn). Free with RSVP. If you’re in NYC, we would love to see you there!

The documentary’s soundtrack will also be available via Dub-Stuy’s Bandcamp and can be streamed via Spotify and other digital platforms starting Thursday, February 2nd.

This film is part of Come On In, a docuseries that celebrates the life and color of America’s diverse cultures. Following three stories in Chicago, Atlanta and Brooklyn, Come On In is a love letter to the irrepressible American spirit and to how passions can unite people to create communities that inspire and amplify their voices.
